I Was Doing Everything Right — So Why Wasn’t My Body Changing?

There was a time when I felt completely frustrated with my body.
I was working out consistently.
I was eating “clean.”
I was disciplined, committed, and doing everything I thought I was supposed to do.
And yet… my body wasn’t changing.
Fat loss had stalled. My energy felt off. And I couldn’t understand why what used to work for me no longer did.
If you’re a busy mom over 35 and this sounds familiar, I want you to know something important right away:
You’re not broken.
Why Fat Loss Feels Harder After 35
For years, I believed that if results weren’t happening, the answer must be to try harder:
More workouts
More cardio
Less food
But after 35, that approach often backfires.
Hormonal changes, increased stress, lack of recovery, and muscle loss all play a role. What worked in your 20s and early 30s doesn’t always support your body the same way later on.
In my case, trying harder actually led to:
Low energy
Stubborn fat
Feeling like my body was working against me
What I Was Doing Wrong (Without Realizing It)
Looking back, I can clearly see the mistakes I was making — and they’re the same ones I now see so many busy moms making:
Undereating, thinking less food meant more fat loss
Overdoing cardio, while under-prioritizing strength training
Not lifting with intention, just “getting workouts in”
Ignoring recovery, because life was already busy
None of this made me lazy or undisciplined.
It simply meant my strategy no longer matched my body’s needs.
The Shift That Changed Everything
Everything started to change when I stopped trying harder and started training smarter.
I focused on:
Strength training to build and protect lean muscle
Eating enough to support my metabolism and hormones
Reducing unnecessary stress on my body
Following a plan that fit my real life — not a perfect one
That shift didn’t just change my body — it changed my relationship with fitness and food.
And it’s the exact same approach I now use with my clients.
